“The World and
Me”
10-12 Year Olds
Our teachers introduce ten to twelve year old children to different
kinds of celebrations, values and real objects that are shared among
various Spanish-speaking communities, as a way to set the stage for
comparisons. We believe that the use authentic literature and
objects allow us to recreate experiences that are very similar to
those of children growing up in the Spanish speaking world. For
instance, the children learn about el dia de los muertos in
Mexico and work to compare it to Halloween in the United
States. Transference of reading and writing skills in Spanish
are expected at this point. |
